I have a Kitchen Aid KBRS36FKX00 that is about ten years old.
When the fridge was under warranty, the evaporator motor and
part of the wiring harness was changed as a known problem.

I am now having the same problem, the unit runs constantly and the
freezer works fine but the refrigerator section temperature has been rising.
I found on this forum a post by Gene where he had a link to a service manual for a side by side model. I was wondering if the procedures are the same for the bottom freezer units.

The first thing I would do is remove the top grille and clean the condenser coils (#16 on the diagram). Make sure the fan next to the compressor is running.

I cleaned the coils. Now the refrigerator does not cool at all. I replaced the evaporator fan as it flunked the diagnostic test.

Now the compressor flunks the test as well as the defroster heater and bimetal.

I was wondering if you had a service manual for this model, I am using one for a side by side now.

This is very strange.

I did not find the service manual for this model but I did find the Tech sheet. It is attached to the reply.

Gene, things seem to working fine now, It took overnight for the temperatures to reach normal levels. Thanks for your help.

we own a MAYTAG MTB1504ARS

I have similar symptoms. Freezer is fine. Fridge is warm. I have replaced the def. timer. Still no luck.

Service repair man wants to charge me 295 + tax for parts and labor for a defrost system. (we are in New York) Does this sound incredibly high?

Hi, I have a Maytag MBF2258WEB0. I am getting a heavy frosty coating all across the evaporator every 6 days or so. The little duct flap in the refrigerator section seems to open and shut. I am assuming that there is a problem with the heater. I think that my unit uses a ADC rather than a timer motor. Is the problem usually with the heater, the Bimetal - Def, or the thermostat in the freezer? What should I do?

I checked the continuity of the heater and it measures OK. I am not sure where the Bimetal switch is. There is a round cylindical sensor clamped onto the cold lines going to the evaporator. I don't see any plug for it. It just seems to go up into the main harness.

Hi Sean,

There are no a separate ADC in your refrigerator. The defrost, as well as many other functions, controls by the control board (#5 on the diagram).

The bi-metal is usually located on top of the evaporator. It is shown as #14 on the diagram.

If the bi-metal is good, replace the control board.
