HELP I am in the middle of holiday baking and my microwave has stopped heating anything. I was making candy, melting chocolate and it worked fine. I went to heat up some soup and it wouldn't work. Now I can't get water to heat up. I tried the hint from the other thread about using the defrost mode to see if you could hear the different pull of electricity. I could always hear the difference before, but now it is a steady sound, no on / off type difference. There is no smell and everything else on it is working. Please tell me what is wrong. Its not been my best week so I sure could use some good news. Thanks in advance.:)

You have to have a simple multimeter to perform the troubleshooting.

Let me know if you are ready.

Gene, Thank you for the info. I will buy a multimeter tomorrow and be ready for the next step. If you are reading this before Sat, you can give me the next step, then once I get the meter I can do the diagnostics. Thanks again.

Sorry for the delay. Remove the screws on top of the microwave holding the grille. Slide the grill to the left to remove the tabs from the slots and pull the grill out.

Remove the screw holding the control panel and open the control panel. Check the door switches (#67 & 68 on the break down diagram) for continuity.

If there is nothing wrong then remove the two wires from the primary winding on the high voltage transformer (#83 on the break down diagram) and check for 120VAC between these wires while the control calls for heat and the door is closed.

If there is 120VAC then the magnetron is bad.

If there is no 120VAC then the control board has to be replaced.

Post the results and I'll help you with the right part numbers.

Gene.

Hey, sorry to butt in, but this thread matches my own problem exactly! I determined that the magnetron is bad, and ordered a new one from GE under the limited warranty. It will arrive today. The model number of my oven is JVM1850WH02. Could you offer some instruction for replacing the magnetron?

By the way, getting to the right person at GE for a new part under the limited manufacturer's warranty was nontrivial. It turns out the place to start is Customer Relations at 800-386-1215.

Thanks!

rodr,

In order to remove the magnetron you have to remove the microwave from the cabinet first and then remove the outer case.

Here are the break down diagrams for the GE microwave Model JVM1850WD002
