I have a Magic Chef Model CGR3742CDQ gas stove. The upper burners work but the oven will not heat up. There is no gas smell when the oven is on. I am assuming for the moment that it is a faulty ignitor but am unsure as to what part number is required. Any help would be appreciated.

Fred, You're on he right track, most ignition and heat problems in a gas oven are due to a weak igniter, Part number: AP4096256
You can test for 3.2 to 3.6 VAC, at the wires on the burner safety valve wires, or an amperage draw of 3.2 to 3.6 amps, with a clamp on ammeter, either way, the igniter has to be in the ignition process (on and glowing). Good Luck, :) :) :)

Romero, Yes, a glow bar igniter can glow red, and still be weak. A non technical test would be to observe the glow bar, It should glow "white" hot in 60 to 90 seconds from the time the glow starts, if not the igniter is weak, and needs to be replaced. Good Luck, :) :) :)

I have a GE gas range JGBS22BEH3WH that won't light the oven, either. Cooktop works fine. The glow bar doesn't do anything, doesn't even get warm. Does this seem to point to the glow bar, or the thermostat?

If you have a multimeter it wouls be graet to check for a resistance reading. If the igniter does not glow at all, it's still likely you have a bad igniter or a loose wire, but could also be a thermostat / control. Good Luck, :) :) :)

Joe, thanks for the input. I'll give that igniter test and see what happens since it appears to be intact!
