My 2007 over the stove Stainless Whirlpool microwave does not stay on past 2:00 minutes. When it goes off it powers on and off every second. This happens on every power setting, even defrost. If I leave it off for 2-3 minutes it will power on for another 30 seconds to a minute and start going on and off again.

Paul,

The best way to check your power supply is with a multimeter. You may have an issue with the AC linr filter or the control board.

Part number: AP3951263
Part number: AP3951263

Part number: AP4371505
Part number: AP4371505

If you have constant 120 VAC on connector P3 pin #1 (brown wire) to chassis ground, the line filter is OK and you'll need the control board(you need the unit to be on and in a cooking mode during the voltage test).

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

Joe,

Thanks for your response and comments.

Since this was a strange intermittent issue, I decided to see if I could find a physical problem with the control board. I shut off the breaker, unplugged all the cables and pulled out the controller board. I was expecting to see a cold solder joint on the bottom of the board at the transformer or one of the power cable joints. To my surprise they all looked good for being about 4 years old. What I did find was a strange splash of solder and resin across the transformer T-127 and T-128 land. I scraped it off and cleaned it up. I re-seated all the data, power and relay cables. The microwave is working fine now I test it by boiling cups of water for, 2, 3 and even 5 minutes. It never shut off.

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,

Great job,
Sometimes it pays to put in a little extra time and effort.
We were on track, anyway.
