My 12-year-old Estate brand direct drive washer recently starting making a noise on spin cycle between a whine and a squeal. Both the pitch and intensity (loudness) seem to vary from cycle to cycle. Last evening, my somewhat non-functioning nose seemed to pick up the barest whiff of something getting hot.

Any ideas, suggestions, and/or moral support welcome!

Thanks as always,

Jim

Check out the brakes using the Sticky at the top of this page by Richappy on direct drive brakes. They may not be fully releasing.

Thanks for your reply!

I had wondered if ti might be the brakes but wanted the opinion of someone who knows more about these things than do I.

Thanks again,

Jim
