Our freezer has not been making as much ice for the last couple of weeks and then yesterday I realized that all of our food in the freezer is thawing. It sounds like it is running but it doesn't get that cold and now makes no ice. What should we check first?

Hi BARB JSEAM

The first thing I would check is the condition of the condenser coils and the condenser fan motor. Also to provide the most accurate advise I need the complete model number of your fridge.

Gene.

It's a whirlpool, Model #ED25TEXHW00, Serial #SK0734133. I vacummed the coils I could get to yesterday and pulled the relay switch off the compressor yesterday and the freezer began to work again. This morning it began to thaw again so I pulled the relay switch off again, put it back and plugged it back in. It's working again. Does that mean that the relay is bad?

Yes you might have a relay or overload that will work intermittently, suggest replacing both for good measure... And remember to reinstall the back cover on your refrigerator, many models utilize the cover to direct airflow across the condenser coil... I've seen many folks remove the cover to clean and not bother putting the cover back on... cheers
