Dear Sir/Madam,
I have an about 5-year old Maytag (Norge) washer (Model Number MAV6000AWW).
Problems: When problems started last Saturday: (1) After we turned the control dial to a certain spot, e.g. White, and pulled it up, water was filled in normally (2) During agitation, there were some ear-piercing sound and burnt smell (3) After agitation finished, the control dial stopped at Rinse spot and no water was drained out. The washer stopped there. (4) We examined the rubber belt at the bottom but could not tell whether it had problem or not (5) We had not examined the pump or motor yet Now: After several tries of filling water, when we pulled the dial again, the washer did not start, and burnt smell was notice as soon as we pulled the control dial up
Examination: (1) We took off the single belt, first from the motor pulley with a help of a screw driver. NO obvious worn or stretched was found. (2) We turned the 3 pulleys: (1) Pump, it was free to turn both ways and minor noise was noticed; (2) Motor, it turned freely both ways and no noise was noticed; (3) Transmission: One way was easy and the other was hard, no noise (3) Pump: We took the pump out, no clog found. We separated the plastic part (with 2 necks to connect the hoses) with the other part by unscrewing 4 screws. The plastic part had some yellow, burnt oil remain on it. The other part, including the metal pulley and a plastic center, was difficult to further separate by unscrewing the screw at the plastic center. When turning the pulley, some minor, non-regular noise was notice
Questions: (1) How do we know whether we should replace the belt and pump or not? (2) Should we take out the motor? How to examine the motor good or not? (3) How to put the belt back onto the 3 pulleys? (4) There is oil leakage from the transmission. Should add some oil back? If yes, add to where and add what kind of oil?

Pull the belt off the tranny and turn the tranny pulley in agitation direction,(one direction spin, other agitate) if very hard to turn, you need a new tranny. Before replacing, check under the agitator to make sure there is nothing stuck there.
