This is an interesting one. Four days ago, something happened back at the pigtail connection, causing a short and a burned through 30amp wire at the dryer. Tripped a breaker.

I looked at it, cleaned it all up, and replaced the pigtail. Everything was fine.

This AM, the dryer was acting strange. The light inside was too bright. The motor was too loud. And when you started it, it started with a kick and turned faster than normal.

For about 10 seconds. Then it stops. "Good feelings gone" as dad said in "Finding Nemo."

Lights stay on, no error codes. But it's getting too much voltage.

How do I address this?

A model number may help others help you.

3 wire or 4 wire hook up?

"interesting" is an understatement.
You have two 120 volt power supplies that are 180 degrees out of phase feeding the unit. In order to get a high voltage you would have to loose the Neutral connection and then one of the 120 volt supplies would have to short to Neutral or ground (unit case/frame). I am not sure that this would pop the internal light but it would fry the motor in short order.
Also the units frame now would have 120 volts on it which is very dangerous.

The place to start would be at the house wiring (receptacle) with the unit disconnected to ensure that the power here is OK.
This may be a job for a pro unless you have experience with electricity.

It's a three wire hookup, using your standard 30 amp pigtail.

I checked the house power. The receptacle shows 121 coming from both hot wires.

Still stuck.

It does show 220 between two hot wires.

I think I figured it out. I think the whole problem started when the place the pigtail attached broke in some fashion. Then it shorted out.

Then these repairs have proven to be only temporary because I took that mount out, cleaned it up, but then it went back into whatever problem it had before.

So I think I'm going to replace the mount.

Changing plan. I'll direct connect first to confirm that the fault is in the terminal block.

The three wires coming from the W10110850A Duet Dryer are red, black and white.

Going to a three pronged plug, with two hot/phased prongs and one center:

What should a direct connection look like?

Not sure I understand the question.

The center (white) on the terminals strip is Neutral/ground. It should also have a wire that attaches at the terminal and then that attaches to the frame.

The other 2 wires (red and black) are the power sides, outside connectors on the terminal strip.

If the wires are pitted/overheated/discolored you should cut the wires back till you get to nice clean copper.

The best type of wire nuts to use have the brass insert with a screw to tighten down onto the wires and then the bakelite cover (hard plastic) screws onto this to protect the connection from shorting out.

Let me reconfirm that there is 240 between the two hot lines.

The model number is W10110850A. That's off the manual; I haven't seen a number on or inside it yet.

I used the plastic screw-on covers in the testing that I did. The test failed, I got nothing from the machine.

In the test, I directly connected to a pigtail coming from the wall. That pigtail had three wires. The two on the outside were the ones that appeared to be coming from the two V plugs. The inner one appeared to be coming from the single middle plug.

I connected the black and the black/red stripe to the two V-originating wires. I connected the white to the middle plug.

Nothing.

Without a model number I am lost.
I do not really understand the last post.
There are quite a few units in the Duet series and also a Duet Sport series.
Following is a link for the the most common Duets, it should be close to your unit.

You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.

I'm sorry. I know I don't know all the right terminology for this.

The model number, as stated above, is W10110850A. This is from the manual.

I'm calling a repairman. I give up.
