I have a gas fireplace and need to replace the robert shaw 7000 series gas valve.
The problem that im having is the jumper wireto the magnet i belive it is called is not the same as the ten year old one
The 96 model has a small thermocouple threaded into it instead of the jumper wire
My question is how do i hook this up
should i use the old valve or wire it up different
the valve was 200$ so i dont whant to screw it up.
cAN SOME ONE HELP ME PLEASE

It sounds like one is using a thermocouple ,, and the new one is for an electronic ignition???
If you give us the model #'s of the gas valves we would be able to help better.

Sorry another quick thought. Take the gas valve to a fireplace dealer and ask him if they have an exact replacement. If there is a Johnstones supply near you they might have a close replica as well. Johnstones usually have very helpful staff.
$200 seems like an awful lot for a gas valve.

See my reply elsewhere on this but you have the wrong valve. You must get the correct valve only.

Did your old valve have a bad magnet? What was the original problem? If the pilot would not stay lit then you only need to blow the dust out the pilot saftey. Over the summer the dust buildup makes the oxygen depletion chamber think the breathable oxygen in the room is low. Simply flushing out the pilot with rustbuster helps keep from damaging the delicate ODS flap on the pilot.

There is no oxygen depletion sensor on any Heatilator, Heat&Glo or Quadrafire gas fireplaces. ODS pilots are for ventfree appliances. The only ventfree HHT builds are electric. They did make a hydrogren fireplace that burns water but they only built 3 and quit since they sold for about $70K each. :D
So, what's with this air diffuser guy? Spamming every thread he can?
To re-iterate, you should get your parts only from the mfr., which means through one of their dealers. If there isn't a retailer near you, you can always purchase through their owned distribution of FireSide Hearth & Home.
