Looks like there is something wrong in the pump. You have to remove it from the dishwasher, take it apart and inspect it.

Gene,
(From a reply to Singh_Kirpal on 1-15-2008)

I found there was no water being pumped out from the trap end of the drain hose. So I followed your advice and examined the Check Valve, which was indeed clogged. The blockage was mainly pieces of plastic from broken clips on the upper tray. Thanks Gene!

Well, this looks like the Mother of All Whirlpool threads, so I am going to try asking my question here.

This one came with the house, so no idea how old it is. There is no air gap installed, the drain line goes to the disposal and is clear. The pump does not seem to be running during the drain portion of the cycle. The timer advances, and clicks when it should, but I cannot hear the pump running (should I?).

I have a meter and know how to use it, but I don't have a wiring diagram. I'm sure the pump is controlled by the timer, but if I knew which wires went to the pump I might have a chance.

Any help will be appreciated!

Remove the bottom panel and check if the pump motor is running on any cycle.

If it makes a humming noise, replace the pump & motor assembly.

If it's silent, check for 120 VAC to the motor and post the results.

Gene--
Thank you.
There is 120vac at the motor at the spin cycle, but the motor does not spin.
I removed the motor; it spins freely. I ohmed out each of the four leads and there is continuity between each pair of terminals.
The motor is warm (not hot) when there is power to it.
If I knew where the case ground was, I would try each terminal to ground...but the case is plastic. :)

Thank you for your help.
Best, Rich

Gene--
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I clicked on the part number Part number: AP4415702 but am getting an error page instead of a description, price, etc.
I am also getting a failure when I click on the link:
Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL RUD4000MQ0 UNDERCOUNTER DISHWASHER |
Can you give me an idea of the price of ths unit and if (from my decription) you think it is the problem?

Thank you, Rich

Hi Rich,

I don't know why these links did not work for you. There is nothing wrong with them.

If there is proper voltage to the motor, then you have to replace it. APP sell it for $138.14

Thank you, Gene.
I took the motor out into the garage, and supplied power to the two outboard terminals.

The motor hummed but did not turn. I had an assistant give the shaft a turn and it started spinning. As soon as I removed and re-applied power, same deal. Took it apart hoping to find worn brushes, but it's a brushless motor.

Cleaned the armature with acetone and clean rag, re-assembled, same result.

I will be buying a new motor.

Thanks again for the direction.
Best, Rich
