Our washer is making a loud whir during spin cycle only and the motor is overheating and shutting down. However, I put a cooling fan on the motor and was able to run a load, and the both the upper and lower bearings stayed very cool to touch after the spin cycles.
Is this probalby a motor bearing problem, or is more troubleshooting necessary? The motor appears easy to replace but anything else might be a show stopper for something so old (the SS bucket is still good etc).
Thanks in advance.

I think something is hanging up in the transmission area, and given the age of the machine I think you should replace it. If the motor were the problem you would be having trouble in agitation, so that easy fix is not available.
