I have no heat coming out on otherwise good working dryer. I pulled the heating element, which looks fine other than discolored area on plate. Can I check it for continuity? Do I automatically just replace this element or check other sources for problems (such as thermostats and fuses)?

Check for continuity on the element and the thermostats. The most common problem is the thermal cut off part # 279816 (Part Details - WHIRLPOOL Thermal cut-off for dryer heating element 309 degrees (includes high-limit thermostat), part number: 279816)
