My Amana ALE866SBW dryer makes a rubbing noise similar to one from a bad bearing. The noise occurs only in the heated cycle, not in the unheated cycle. When a timed heated cycle is selected and run for about 5 minutes, a rubbing noise slowly builds up to being fairly loud. The noise will slowly die away when switching to an unheated cycle. The noise comes from the motor/blower region. Again, this noise does not happen when running in non-heat timer cycle. Is there a blower cycle that starts after the dryer heats to a certain temperature? It is hard to diagnose because the heating must occur, and therefore the blower is mostly visually covered up to allow the heat to pass thru to the duct system. Is there a way to jumper the thermostat that controls this cycle so I can take the drum out and observe where exactly the noise is coming from when the blower is running in a simulated heat cycle?

This also occurs when the door is open. All you can do is open it up and check the components for signs of wear. A rubbing noise is often the front glides (Item 11 in Section 4). I would also check/clean the blower, the idler wheel, the drum seals, rear support rollers and the motor bearings etc. Give the interior and the blower wheel a good cleaning. Also clean/check your vent system. Am not sure why it is only on heat settings but could be that it is just due to expanding parts. Be sure to unplug the unit when working on it.
