My GE countertop microwave started arcing in the top of the oven. I removed the cover which had burned spots on the inside of the oven thinking maybe it had grease causing the waves to short out. The unit still arcs up in the hole that had been covered.

Is this a practical problem to fix?

Unfortunately this problem is not repairable. It's time for a new microwave.
