I have a Hotpoint washer that was in the home when I got it... don't know how old it is.
It has two agitators... top one is removable for small or delicate loads. Lately the agitator will start ok but then appears to slip off the post. If I push it back down it will start again but eventually slips again. What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks.

Im not sure about the two agitators but mine only has one. When that happens with mine, we have to replace the coupling. check under the agitator when removed and see if there is a threaded rubber coupling (might be plastic) and replace that. It works for us. But now I cant get mine off to replace it. Hope you have better luck than I am. Or hope its fixed by now, just noticed the date on post.

If you have the old style spindle without a coupler, either your agitator splines are stripped, or the tranny. If tranny, you need a new one!!
