The other day my washing machine stopped going into the spin cycle. The agitator still worked, filled and drained properly, just didn't spin so clothes came out dripping wet. I read around and thought that the problem was a worn out clutch. Bought a new one, replaced it, still no spin. I then proceeded to rip apart the agitator and tub to see if I could see anything. What I found, and I think is the problem, is that the lint filter - I think that's what it's called, the plastic piece that the metal tub sits on or spins on is stuck to the actual outer tub. I assume that should be freely spinning with the metal inner tub? I found this diagram online, #12.

I broke it while messing around with it so I'll have to replace it no matter what...... but before I bought it I wanted to confirm that this part should be spinning with the inner tub was the problem.

Thanks!

Those lint filters are discontinued and replaced with some cheap plugs that dont work save your money and just remove the filter and run without as they never worked the way they were intended to anyway

Could you hear the motor running when in the spin cycle?

Yes. I tried running it in spin cycle without the lint filter and it works.... not sure if dirt and sand got underneath the lint filter causing it to jam up or what.
