Our Kitchenaid under counter ice maker stopped making ice. We had a tech come out yesterday. He diagnosed that the grid was bad. The grid wire was hanging down, while everything else seem to functioning properly. He tells us it is a $550.00 repair. Of course we ask him how much the part was and the labor. He was extremely evasive. He said that if we get the part else where, he would charge us $175.00 to do the repair. I found the part on line for $131.00 from Kitchenaid and various other on line companies. My question is, is this a repair that we can do ourselves, and if not, how long should this repair take and how much should a reputable tech charge? Thank you. Rhonda

this is a simple repair. I also have a Kitchenaid model # KUIA18PNLS2 I think that the grids are the same.
Take the cover off of the front of the grid (two screws underneath it) .. then there are two more screws that hold it in. One on the right side and one on the left. Remove them, unplug the plug and out it comes!! Then reverse the actions to replace it!
