I unscrewed the light bulb on my microwave hood and it exploded. It had been acting strangely for weeks. After that, the fan and light are no longer worked. :(
Any suggestion on where I can find the fuse? I am at a loss if this is the problem or not and where to look.
The Mwave workd great otherwise.
Thanks !

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week. At our site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes. This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller. This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too. Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa. Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help. A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.######## We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer. Serena,
 What exploded? The bulb? Is anything else working on the microwave? Clock?, Beeper?, Mircowave itself? :) Try checking the fuse. It is part #5001 in the interior parts II diagram on the sears parts direct website for the model number you gave. It does not cost anything to check. And it should be behind the control panel that the other guy told you how to remove. It is an easy thing to check with a volt meter. It should be one of the first things along with the circuit breaker to make sure you are getting power to the microwave.

When the bulb shorts out like described, the trace on the back of the board burns, causing lights and fan not to work. There is no fuse for just the lights and fan. If you remove the board from the panel, you will see where the board burned.

Hi Mark, yes the bulb exploded. The microwave works still as well as the display; "only" the fan and light seem to be affected. So, no hood. My kitchen will be nice and steamy this Thanksgiving. After Thanksg I plan to pull off the control panel and see what is up. Thank you all, gentlemen, for kindly advice and ideas. Happy Holiday. Serena
