Hey there folks,

I have a Whirlpool Calypso washer and the other day the touch pad of the control panel decided to stop working i.e., pressing any button doesn't light up the option chosen.

First I checked the breakers .... they were fine.
Then I pulled out the volt meter and checked the outlet .... that gave power.
Then I opened the back of the control panel and tested the voltage going into the Machine Control Board .... that had 120V as well!

So I followed the lines going from the Machine Control Board to the Motor Control Board and expected it to get 120V as well, but that wasn't the case .... thus my rookie answer was that the Machine Control Board must have a broken electronic part on it so it's not forwarding power to the Motor Control Board (based on my results, I was probably wrong).

Hence I bought a new Machine Control Board and just replaced it expecting (/hoping) for the machine to work .... DOH! no dice, it still doesn't work.

Now I hope to gain some experience from you experts out there on what I should do next?

Here's the diagram page for my machine:
Model GVW9959KQ2

I didn't happen to notice an in-line fuse, and the lid switch being open or closed doesn't have an effect on the dryer, thus I assume it wouldn't have one on the washer either.

Please help :-) Laundry for 5 is piling up.
Thanks in advance,
Roger

Hi Roger,

I have the same problem with my Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959KQ2. Did you get a response from the repair guru's on how to fix this problem. Is the problem the Electronic Control Board, the Motor Control Board or the Touch pad?? Please.. your immediate response is requested.
Thanks,
Rivera

Hi rivera,

After originally ordering the Electronic Control Board (ECB), which did not fix the matters ... I then consulted a local repair shop (recommended by whirlpool.com) and they stated it was the actual Control Panel Assembly and that I blew a fuse on my Motor Control Board.

They ordered both parts for me, but after 2 weeks of waiting, they claimed they received the Motor Control Board (MCB), but that the Control Panel Assembly was on backorder indefinitely!

My response to that was BS, because a manufacturer needs to produce parts for discontinued equipment for 7 years after being discontinued.

I opted to purchase and replace the parts myself, thus I bought the Motor Control Board and Control Panel Assembly (CPA) ... side note on the CPA, I ordered the "pewter" color when I actually have the "pearl" shade in the laundry room [pearl apparently is the indefinte backorder color]. Personally I didn't care that there was a slight (I mean very minimal) color difference at all ... and now after having it installed, I actually like the pewter one better than the pearl!

Anyways, to get back on subject here, once I received the MCB and CPA (33 days after my original ECB purchase) .... I only installed the CPA with the old ECB & MCB and it worked like a charm! It's been 4 days now since install of the CPA and it's doing wonderful :-) Now the task is to wash, wash, and wash for my family of 5!

I hope this happens to be your issue as well and is thus easily resolvable.

Good luck,
Roger

Hi,

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have the Calypso GVW9959KL1. I suspect it is the same part that failed, the CPA, even though I have power on the panel (it is stuck on 8 minutes remaining). No matter how many times I press the cancel button, the remaining time is 8 minutes and the other buttons are non-responsive. I opened the panel and checked and could not find any lose connections. My questions are:

o Where did you purchase the part? Online?
o What manual did you use?

TIA

Hey Willie,

I purchased the part from Appliance Parts Pros.com Discount Appliance Parts – Appliance Repair Parts
Just type in your ..KL1 model # (or the following link: Model GVW9959KL1)
Select the Control Panel Diagram (#4) in the top-left frame, look at the rendition in the top-right frame, notice the Control Panel is #9, and then scroll down the bottom-right frame to view the spec on that part number .... process the order from there.

Oh as far as the manual is concerned .... don't have one, it's just a matter of unscrewing some nuts & bolts and unplugging some of the electrical cable connectors.

Good luck!

Rivera, what did you wind up doing? My GVW9959KQ2 is having the same problem (no led lights or sounds). Per Roger's experience I should replace the touchpad, but all the Whirlpool documentation indicates to replace the ECB first. I'd feel better about just ording the touchpad if I had an additional data point. BTW, big thanks to Roger for such a helpful post.

Please help! Thanks in advance.
