This is a top load washer. All cycles work except for the Gentle Knit cycle. In the Gentle Knit cycle, it will fill with water, sometimes it only agitates briefly, sometimes it will spin and sometimes it will not, and sometimes it will drain and sometime it will not. I have replaced the lid switch and bypassed the lid switch. Looked at the clutch and it seems fine. I am thinking the problem is either the dial timer or the motor since it is a 2 speed motor. How would I check these two items? Also if it is not these 2 items, what do you think it is?

Bowdaddy,

You are aware that there is an intermittent slow agitate and soak cycle in the wash portion of the Gentle/Knit cycle, and a high speed spin/drain that drops to a slow spin ? And the washer agiatation operation is dependant, on where you set the timer dial at the start of the cycle ?

A simplified test would be to check the motor windings and wiring to the motor.

Remove the wires at the motor, with a multimeter check for 1 to 2 ohms resistance across the terminals blue and white wires on the motor switch(high speed winding). Check for 1.5 to 3 ohms resistance across the purple and white / black stripe terminals on the motor switch(low speed windings)

If you're readings are within 10% of the resistance readings, your motor is OK, check the wires for proper connections, and repalce the timer if all is OK

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

Ohm meter resistance measurements are worthless, the windings could be a charred mess and still check ok.
I would pull the cover off the timer and check for burnt contacts. This site fails to show the timer Part # 3347714
You could also wiggle timer knob when it fails, would confirm a bad timer.
