I have a Maytag Atlantis washing machine that's about 8 years old. Recently it has begun making a lot of noise while spinning. Occasionally it does not drain and spin all the way. When this happens the fabric softener has not dispensed either. Is this potentially a simple repair, or should I just replace it?

Rand,

It might be a simple as a worn belt and drive pulley cam adjustment, or thrust bearing replacement.

Part number: AP4029079

Have you isolated the noise to the bottom area of the machine ? or is the noise up near the middle of the cabinet or tub, that would indicate a worn tub bearing assembly.

With your description, those are the more likely situations at this time.

:) :) :)

My model number is MAV 1834Aww Serial numbdr 20210634CR I could not determine exactly where the noise came from maybe louder near the bottom but is it very loud even through a closed door. Are there any special tools required to replace the thrust bearing assembly? How long of a job would it be to replace the thrust bearing and belt? Thanks

Rand,

Lets do this first, so we can isolate the noise location better.

Top Cover Removal

1. Disconnect power supply to unit.
2. Insert a plastic putty knife between the Top Cover and
Front Panel. Press the locking clip to release the Top
Cover. Repeat for both sides. Support lid with free
hand and rotate top until it comes to rest on hinge

stop.
Front Panel Removal

1. Disconnect power supply to unit.
2. Lift Top Cover, see “Top Cover Removal” procedure.
3. Remove two screws, 1 each side on Front Panel top

edge.

After you've got the panel removed, put the timer in a spin cycle and let it run, Do Not reach into the cabinet. You'll be better able to isolate the noise.

On average, I would estimate it will take 30 to 40 minutes for a DIY'r to perform the belt and thrust bearing repair, adjusting the cam is the hardest part.

By the way, I could not find your model number, in any of our data, but this information still applies to all MAV units.

Thanks,
:) :) :)
