I have a 1980 Maytag gas dryer, had 6'' of water in basement, for a short time, now when I relite the pilot light, it wan't stay lit.

If this is very old dryer with "standing pilot" ignition then looks like the gas safety valve has been shorted and, as far as I know, this part has been discontinued many years ago. We need the complete model number of the dryer for more accurate advise.
