when replacing the door handle, i don't see how that bottom screw comes out. or, do I just try to remove the broken plastic encased around the screw, so the new door handle will fit?

You have to remove the inner door panel (#1805 on the break down diagram) first. The video clip from one of our previous posts will help you to understand the procedure.

- The part number for the black door handle is AP2021171

Here are the break down diagrams for the GE microwave Model JVM1339BW02
