Maytag oven bake element does heat but the temperature control is very erratic. In order to heat oven to its proper temperature the temperature setting must be set very high and then lowered to attempt to maintain the proper temperature. Is this a problem with the temperature sensor or the baking element itself? Please help, thank you.

Rust,

It could be a problem in the oven temperature sensor or the ERC/Clock.

How far out of range is the oven temperature ?

(more than 50 degrees, is most likely the ERC)

You can test the resistance of the temperature sensor with a multi meter
(< 1100 ohms at room temperature, at 210 degrees(boiling water)1350 ohms resistance), that will help direct us,in which area we need to go to.

:) :) :)
