I have a Kenmore Series 90 washing machine Model 110.2612691.
The problem I am having is that when the machine is turned on it will not start but the motor will heat up and start to smell, but if it is turned off and on again it will start and go through the full cycle with no problems. Any Ideas

I would replace the motor and capacitor only after you have checked the drain pump has nothing in it

Bad advice! I would pull the timer cover off and look for burnt contacts, most probable problem.

That's the point of my comment, you must confirm failure and not just throw parts at a problem, others may do it, BUT not on this forum. These washer problems are hard enough to diagnose, but an amp probe makes it easy but most people do not have one.

Thank You for your information.
I think you are right about the timer because when I tap on the timer the motor will start.

Good work, glad you found the problem.
Here in this forum, most servicers have a lot of experience and gain a well deserved "expert" rating. However, a lot of "junior" members with very good experience have been very helpful also.
