My washer started making a loud noise, so I went in to check it and the agitator is not moving. If this is an inexpensive repair I would like to fix it. Any suggestions?

If the machine will spin and drain the problem may be with the agitator dogs which are inside the top piece of the agitator. It is about as simple and inexpensive a repair you can make.

If it will dain but not agitate or spin the problem may be in the coupling. That is also an inexpensive repair.

Let us know if you need more info.

If it will drain the problem may be the coupling and here is a video that will show you how to check it

If it is not draining then your transmission has probably gone south, and something is broken in it.
