I have a Maytag LAT5005AAE top loading washer that I love. I have replaced the timer on it a few years back and that has been my only problem until today. I went to start the machine and nothing happened. (Side note: yesterday the machine stopped mid cycle and after a little knob adjusting it started back up.) I opened the top portion of the machine and found the fuse in the lid switch assembly was blown. I tried replacing the fuse, which immediately blew. So after looking at this website, noticed I needed to replace the whole lid switch assembly. I did so, but the fuse continues to blow. Any other thoughts?

Possible the new lid switch assembly needs some adjustments or the unbalance lever (#31 on the diagram) is broken. The lid switch assembly instructions are attached to the reply. - The unbalance lever assembly Part number: AP4026779

Would the fuse blow again if the switch assembly is not installed properly? Also, is there any "power" to the unbalance lever?

I installed the lid switch assembly according to the attached instructions and installed a new fuse. When I turn on the machine the fuse immediately blows again. Any other thoughts? Where is this thing "shorting out?" Thanks for all your help and input.

You have to check the lid (large) and the check (small) switches for continuity with the lid open and closed. With the lid open: should not be continuity between the black and red wires connected to the lid switch, and should be continuity between the red and white wires connected to the check switch. With the lid closed: should be continuity between the black and red wires connected to the lid switch, and should be continuity between the red and the black wires and no continuity between the red and white wires connected to the check switch. Gene. P.S. Make sure that both switches are wired in according to the wiring diagram.
