Replaced the start relay on the compressor but it still doesnt cool. The fans run fine. If the compressor is running its really quite and its not hot to touch. I took the back of the freezer out the coils are not frozen. I reset the defrost timer it seems to be working. Just trying things i have seen in other post. still looking for help

What was the original problem?

Did the refrigerator make a clicking sound?

I never heard it clicking but it always seemed to be running. One night I tried turning the thermostat down then it kicked the breaker. I reset it fridge started running again. The next morning when I got up everthing in the freezer was unthawed and in a couple of hours the whole fridge was hot inside. I cleaned the coils under it (very dirty) but it just will not start cooling again.

You will need a meter to check things, other wise it is difficult to help you.

Remove the wires from the temperature control and check for continuity across its terminals while the control is in ON and OFF positions. Check for continuity between each wire and the chassis ground. Post the results.

with the temp. control off the meter stays on 1 and when turned on the meter goes to zero. that means it working right then? I went back a tested the relay it was good(found guide for testing it).

With the temperature control OFF the normal reading is infinity.

What kind of meter did you use?

Gene.
P.S. The problem you described earlier was not connected to the relay from the beginning.
