Hi all, So glad to have found a forum like this on first google hit.
Just a year ago +2 weeks, we bought a new washer/dryer set. No extended warranty, of course....So yesterday my wife tells me that the Sensor dry is not working, and upon watch it start, it quickly goes to cool down mode and then shuts off in about 3-4 minutes time.
A quick call to Amana and they've agreed to fix it for free as it's just over a year (hey Murphy). I did not have to raise my voice, thankfully.
So after I make the appointment I decide to try something simple: I unplug the dryer for a few seconds, and then plug it back in.
Guess what works now, or at least the next full load we did it with.
I have seen this sort of thing happen with a VCR we used to own, so that's why I tried it, but before I go cancelling the appointment, has anyone had this happen and do you know why?
Thank you in advance!
Best regards, Howard Emerson

Best regards, Howard Emerson Howard, A couple of things to check, a) The exhaust pipe, vent tube and vent hood, check and make sure they are clean, no kinks and no lint build up in the tube or pipe. If the exhaust doesn't flow proper, the thermistor will mis inform the control that it's too hot too fast and the machine will shut down. b) The most likely problem is, You probably have a coat of wax/grease on the sensor bar, located on the front bulkhead just below the lint filter grid(2 stainless steel strips) Part number: AP4045307
If you use a lot of fabric softner or softner sheets, you develop a build up on the bars and they stop sensing the moisture in the clothes, the control thinks the clothes are dry and shuts down, You can usually clean the bars with alcohol and remove the build up, and the sensor operates properly. Good Luck, :) :) :)

Good Luck, :) :) :) Hi Joe, Thank you so much for your reply! I did check the vent pipe entirely and it was very clean. The lint filter, while always cleaned off, was partly coated by that waxy buildup from the dryer sheets we use. I cleaned it with a stiff brush and hot water. Two loads of laundry today were entirely uneventful, so I believe the issue was the resetting of the electronics. However I will check the sensor and clean as needed. Thanks again! Howard

Hi Gene, Thank you so much for your reply! Your reply actually got forwarded to my email, but not Joe's. I feel confident canceling the repairman at this point, and besides: The cynic in me says something else will happen if we open up the can........ I will get a look at the sensor in any case as we do use dryer sheets and fabric softener. Thanks again! Howard Originally Posted by: Gene

Good Luck, :) :) :) Hi Joe, Got to look at the sensor this morning and it looks very clean, although my finger detects a waxy film, so I'll be proactive and get out the alcohol. However I did notice that a bunch of lint was able to get past the filter, so that will get cleaned out asap. Thanks again! HE

HE HE, Great job, Glad you're up and running. Yes, there will always be some lint that passes the filter, that's the way it's always been, just keep an eye on it. Good Luck, :) :) :)
