We have a second fridge a GE STS15ABRFRWW. It is colling but not nearly what it should be. There is some ice on the back inside panel of the freezer. Before this started, it used to freeze everything in the back of the fridge. (which we liked for drinks to be slushy!:D ) But now, it isn't cooling enough for that and takes more than a day for a soda to cool enough, and the freezer is running around 7 degrees, so like a frozen thin (think dollar snack) pizza is soft. Any ideas? We have cleaned the condenser coils already. Seems to have helped enough so we can at least still use it for drinks. I am afraid to leave any meats in the freezer though. Always used the fridge part just for drinks, so no problem there.
Thanks for any help you can give me. Oh, and we have it turned to the coldest 9.

Remove the rear panel in the freezer and check how the evaporator coils are covered with snow or ice. Post the results.

Thanks Gene, for your quick reply, my husband won't be able to check until this coming weekend. Will let you know what he finds.

All of a sudden the refrigerator part stopped working my my Kenmore French style 59676509500, but the freezer is working perfectly (2F). Well the freezer is cold but I don't feel the cold breeze hitting me when I open the freezer, nor I hear the fan running in freezer compartment. The fridge part stays 72-77F. One the weird thing I noticed is that the vert mulli (the moving metal strip on left door) is hot to touch. I did not notice any ice build anywhere.

I thought the problem could be evaporator fan. But the fan is running fine (unless I am looking at the wrong fan). I have marked the fan with an "X" in the 1st picture below.

Is there another fan inside the freezer compartment which is called evaporator fan ?

Any help is really appreciated.

That is not the evap fan. The evap fan is accessed from inside your freezer. There should be a (vented) panel/cover that will pop off in the back exposing a small fan. That fan pulls cold air from your freezer up to the fidge area when the temperature requires the fridge area to cool. There is a vent that electrically opens and closes in your fridge section that allow the cold air to enter the fridge area. If is not not spinning it is probably that fan. I think the part number is 12002744, but you may want to double check. Good Luck.

Ok, I accessed the evap fan from inside the freezer and I its not spinning. I found the parts list and diagram on the searspartsdirect website. Should I just swap the motor ? or is there something I should be aware of or careful of before I go head ?

As simple test....Reach up in there and flick the fan with your finger, if it starts spinning you know the motor is getting power.
I would be willing to bet $100 that is the problem. The replacement motor is a little different design, so my guess is this motor has been something that has been known to fail regularly on these units. If you want to test it further you can pull it out and make yourself a little 110V jumper wire and plug it in to an outlet. If it doesn't work, the motor is bad. If you have a Volt meter you can pull the wires to the motor and confirm there is 110V supply going to them when the fridge is plugged in. If it passed the "flick it with your finger test" you already know it has some power going to it. I don't know how familiar you are with electricity so please guide yourself accordingly. Let me know how it goes. Good Luck and be safe.

I flicked the fan with finger and the fan sure started spinning. I stopped it manually and it stopped, but when I flicked it again, it started spinning. Does it mean the motor is bad ? If I need to replace it, my final question is what parts will I need ? (apart from motor) like grommets etc. ?

Just curious, how fast should the evap motor fan should spin ? when I spin start with finger, it spinning slowly.

Also, how do I remove the motor. I did not notice any screws holding the motor or its housing in place other than grommets on top and bottom.

All you need it the motor. (It is turning, when you help it start, but you will find compared to a new one, it is hardly moving at all.) There will be a green wire (if I remember correctly) sent with it new motor, which you will not use.

To access the fan and remove it, you will need to remove everything from the freezer including the trays so you can eventually remove that rear panel inside your freezer. It isn't real difficult to get our once you remove all the screws. Once you have the panel out you will be able to see what you need to disconnect to get the fan out and install the new one. You will reuse the propeller. I think you will find it pretty straight forward. Everything else should be reusable. Take your time to you make sure you get everything back as it was when you reassemble. Let me know how is turns out. Good Luck.
