My heating element went out. I've ordered and recieved a new one. When I pulled the old one out, the plug broke off the old coil before I could catch the wire. Now it is lost behind the oven. Where has it gone? I have one out and one in. Please tell me I don't have to pull my oven out of the wall!!!:( I stick my finger back there but dont feel it...

I could tell you that but I would be lying to you.

You could try getting a piece of stiff wire (coat hanger etc.).
Make a small hook on one end and then try to fish the wire out.
You will have to bend the wire as it goes into the back of the oven.
Gently probe around and you nmay hear it move so then you will have a general location.
I would remove the door so you can get closer to the opening.
Fishing for wires is 10% talent and 90% luck.

If you cannot get it you will have to remove the unit from the wall.

Be sure to flip the breaker off when doing this, on many units there is still power to noe side of the element even with the element turned off.

Thank you for your advice. If I need to take my oven out of the wall, is there anything special I need to know? And secondly, when I do flip the breaker back on to use the lower oven, is it possible to use the top coil on broil in the upper oven for keeping things warm?

I would not trust this thing till you get that wire out.
Make a mistake and you are going to have a big arc and spark perhaps even a fire.
Also odds are good that it could damage other components like blowing your control board.

Here is the install instructions for a similar unit, it may help in pulling the unit.

Sorry but cannot be of much help without being there.

If it is metal conduit then I am at a loss.

If it is BX cable (flexible metal shielded) try pulling it into the cabinet opening. Try straight in and also at angles (up, down etc. If there is a loop back in the wall often this type of cable will not bend enough so it has to be pulled in the correct direction. If you are in a place with a basement perhaps there is loose cable you can push up.

Thank you so much for your help. We actually had to take a panel off the top to un plug the wires. Took the panel off back and there it was. Got it all put back and put together. Your help was invaluable.
