I am trying to replace the heating element on my Kenmore (Whirlpool) electric dryer Model # 110.96273800. I cannot figure out how to remove the old element from dryer. I removed the back, disconnected electrical connections etc. but I cannot remove the casing that the element is in. What am I doing wrong?

What you have to do is pull the lint filter out from the top, and then there will be 2 phillip head screws. Remove them. Then what you need to do is pop the top of the dryer up. Get a putty knife, and slide it under the top on the right side, about 2 inches from the end, and pop up the top on that side. Then do the same on the other side. Once that is done, push the top back and rest it on the back wall. Now there is a little metal bracket that is slipped into the heater housing up top, and then it is bolted down to the housing up top, by a 5/16s screw. Remove it, and then set the lid back down, and pull the dryer out, and remove the whole heater housing. Then flip it over, and you will see a 5/16s screw. Remove hit, and the slide the whole element out. There you have it!!! I have done a million of them!!! Tom ApplianceEducator.com
