I live in Costa Rica, Central America and I have a GE side by side. It is about 5years old. The freezer side is defrosating frequently but the refrigerator is working fine. Do I need a controller for the freezer side where the control selector switch is located or do I need something else? I have to purchase over the internet because parts availability down here is negligable. I don't want to buy something I can't use.

You need to supply more info. What temperature is the freezer at when it is working properly, When it starts defrosting, what else stops, Just the compressor or everything like the fans and compressor. You might just have something simple wrong like a bad condensing fan in the back of the fridge, just check.
