Very noisy rotating drum - replaced the drum rollers and added a new belt - was a lot quieter for a short time. I checked the dryer motor shaft when I replaced the rollers and when spun has a howling sound at the blower end shaft. I've checked with the local appliance shop and there is no replacement bearings for the drive shaft, I have to buy a complete new motor. The current motor is working, the dryer is working, but the noise is a killer. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help,
Tim

These dryers are notorious for having blower wheel issues. thankfully they are cheap enough. Quote:"Tell me about it" mr maytag spokes person

Sublime Master JW,
Thanks for the tip. I removed the blower wheel, but in benchtesting the motor still have the high pitched noise. It sounds like the drive shaft is not lubricated at the blower wheel end. Can I put some grease or lubricant on the drive shaft? What kind is appropriate given the heat and revolutions? Or is it more appropriate to replace the motor?

Hi Tim,

Before replacing the motor you can try to lubricate the motor bearings with a regular SAE 10-30 engine oil.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag dryer Model MDG6000BWW

Gene and Sublime Master JW,

Appreciate the timely and informative tips. After applying your expertise to the problem, I need to replace the motor. The 10-30 engine oil applied to the motor drive shaft at the bearings didn't solve the squeak. oh well, off to this weekend's project!
Thanks again for the education.

Drastic problems call for drastic measures. Get out an electric drill.
Using a 1/8th inch drill bit make a hole on top of each bearing down to the cotton but don't hit the motor shaft. Fill the the wells with the sublimemaster's secret formula motor squeak fixer. I use equal parts of Rust buster and zoomoil mixed together in an applicator bottle. Shhh They will all be doing it! :D
You can get these products at any ace hardware store.chesty.jpg

Sublime Master JW

New motor = $115, new front slides = $15

Sublime Master tips = Priceless

I was already at the appliance store buying my new motor, installed it and of course, it all runs quietly before I picked up this email. But next time I'm going to try your secret formula and give credit where credit is due!

Thanks to Sublime Master JW and Gene for being the experts to help fix my machine!

Now onto to the Guinness!
