Does anyone know the answer? If you oven only heats to about 200 degrees no matter what you set it on. The broiler works fine. Oven cleaner does not. Is it the element or the thermostat?:p

Vona. It could also be due to a bad selector switch(besides the thermostat or element).

If you turn the oven on, in a bake cycle(350 dgrs) and wait 5 minutes, is the element glowing red, if you put your hand over it(don't touch it)is it warm or hot or cold?

You may also want to observe the broil element, most older units cycle the broil element in the bake cycle to promote browning and even heat.

If you have a bad bake element, the broil element will be your only heat source, and not hot enough to cycle the thermostat in a bake cycle.

Let us know what you find, and we'll try and get you to the next step.

only heat seems to be coming from broiler. Maybe 100 to 200 degrees. Bottom element is cold.

Vona,

Yes,

It could be a bad element, (I hope it is).

I don't know, which direction you'd want to take.

Do you have access to a VOM Multimeter, so we can be sure ?

We don't really want to throw parts at this thing, and hope it works.

But, you could if you wish ?
