My Mom's built microwave oven quit working soon after she pushed the start button. Now it has no power at all - no light, and the control panel display is blank. The conventional oven at the bottom has a light when we open the door - so we know power is getting to the unit. It looks like the problem is a fuse or the control panel itself...
The problem I'm having now is that I can't even open the control panel for further troubleshooting. I turned off the breaker at the wall and removed the 2 screws at the top of the panel and now the top can tilt forward a little bit. Then I tried to push it up to unlock it from the tabs at the bottom so I could pull it out, BUT it is really hard. It almost seems that there are other screws securing the panel, but I can't see it.
Could anyone help me and describe how to remove the control panel so I can access the circuit board and/or the fuse(s) to troubleshoot the problem further?
Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Using the diagram below - I removed the 2 screws at the top of the plastic frame (part #1 in the drawing) of the control panel, but still couldn't remove the panel. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=258589

I figured it out...
One has to remove the outer frame/trim of the entire microwave oven then remove the 2 screws at the top of the control panel to gain access to the electrical components inside. On my old GE model, one did not have to remove the trim - the panel would tilt down by removing 2 screws on the left side of the control panel.
With this Whirlpool model (RM278BXV-4), one has to remove 5 screws (3 on top + 1 screw on each of the sides) securing the outer trim frame then take the 2 screws on top of the control panel.
By the way, the reason why the microwave had no power at all was a burnt fuse (250V, 20A) inside the unit (about $1.00).
I hope this helps someone in the future.
Cheers! :)
