what is the most likely cause of my maytag atlantis giving a roaring noise while spinning; the washer works perfectly fine in all other operations except for the roaring noise? doesn't anyone have a clue, i can't believe i am the only one to have experienced this problem, and isn't there anyone out there with experience who could venture a guess? i thought this was the best website to get guidance from an online expert (even a volunteer expert); i guess my problem is to complicated for even an expert or this website is overrated!!! i bet even sidfink is afraid of this question.:confused:

my machine also made this noise before it stopped spinning entirely. Did you ever find out what the problem was?:confused: :confused:

You might want to tilt the washer back and check the pump, may have bad bearings. If ok, release the top retaining clips with a putty knife, then remove the front panel and check for water and grease marks that show bad tub bearings/seals. Another possible problem is a bad brake bearing, just listen to determine the source of the noise to see if it's from the brake housing on the bottom of the tranny.

Since the machine will no longer spin, I can't listen for the location of the sound. Never occurred to me to do this while it was still spinning. However, I do see signs of leaking. I read somewhere that a worn tub seal will cause H2O damage to bearings. I suspect this may be the case. Can you tell me what a spanner wrench tool is for, and is it necessary? The brake spring tool was a must, I am not thrilled about having to spend so much money on tools alone if they are not necessary.:(
