Hi all,

We have a Fridgidaire Ultraquiet III that was installed in our house during a renovation right before we bought it 4 years ago.

Two days ago it started making a horrible screeching/groanding sound during the cycle.

I stopped the machine, took out the washer arm and filter and cleared them . There was some broken glass in the filter, but it didn't look like anything made it past the filter.

I put everything back together again and fired ut back up to find it surprisingly quiet. At the end of the cycle dishes were still dirty, and detergent scum was present under the release door.

I have confirmed that the dishwasher fills with hot water, and empties at the end of the cycle, but neither of the washer arms appear to be rotating and spreading water during the cycle.

I have not worked on appliances before, but I am pretty handy with both cars and computers, so I figured I could handle it, but I do have some beginner questions.

There doesnt appear to be any mechanical linkage to the washer arms. What rotates them? Just the pressure of the hot water going out the holes?

Could this be a pump failure? If so the machine must have more than one pump, as it appears to drain properly.

Does anyone have any further suggestions for diagnosis?

Thank you,
Matt

Yes

Yes, most Frigidaire's use 2 pumps

Remove the kick plate and you should be able to see the two pumps.
Measure across the main (wash) pump. It should have 120 volts when in a wash mode.

Thank you. my apologies. I thought the Ultraquiet III WAS the model name. I will have to look it up when I get home.

From looking inside the washer it appears there are two pumps, one on the back panel, and one circulator on the bottom underneath the glass filter. This is what I suspect is not working, as it appears (and I may be wrong on this) that the circulator in the bottom is what provides the water pressure to the washer arms. Does this sound plausible?

I will update with a model number after I get home from work.

Thanks,
Matt

Take The Filter Out And Clean Out The Rest Of The Sump As More Than Likely It Is Collected More Debris Not Allowing Machine To Wash Properly With Correct Water Pressure?
