First off, I am guessing on the age, I've had the washer for about 3 years and got it used. It doesn't have any noticable rust, I'm guessing it is 5 - 10 years old.
Last night it pumped out, but wouldn't spin. Motor was running. I pulled the front cover off and found that the idler pulley was below the belt. The pulley has a small chip off one edge. I flexed the belt, and pushed the pulley back up into what I assume is the correct position. Now the washer spins, seemed to me that it operated normally. However, my wife says that it only spins at "about 80%" and doesn't drive the water out of the clothes as it should.:(
Where do I look to find that other 20%?
Model # LWA30AW Mfg # PLWA30AW Serial # R 9704027339 Raytheon Appliances Amana Washer
Thanks in advance.:)
Unfortunately, there are later developments. After doing several loads of wash at 80%, the pulley has apparently jumped off track again, my son says it is once again pumping the water out, motor running, but not spinning. I am at work, so can't confirm that the pulley has jumped until I get home tonight.
Again thanks

Looks like the belt and the idler pulley wheel have to be replaced. I would recommend to check also the pulley shaft, both trust washers, the nut and the retaining ring (##11, 12, 7 & 13 on the break down diagram). - The part number for the belt is AP428043 - The part number for the wheel is AP162355 - The part number for the pulley shaft is AP18754 - The part number for the trust washer is AP2911649 - The part number for the nut is AP3098971 - The part number for the retaining ring is AP18758 Here are the break down diagrams for the Amana washer Model LWA30AWGene.

Gene _ Thanks alot, I will order the parts and get right on it. I saw in another post, similiar problem but different model and symptoms, they recommended replacing the tensioning spring on the idler pulley. Would that be part # 6 on the diagram, and do you think I should change it?
I am pretty handy with mechanical stuff, is changing the belt pretty straightforward? The rest of the stuff seems perhaps difficult to get to, but not terribly hard to change.
I appreciate your help, I'll get back to you with the results, once the parts arrive.

You are right - the spring could get weak too and it is #6.
The belt is not too difficult part to replace yourself.

Thanks for your help, you were right on all counts. I didn't need the spring, it was back ordered, so I used the old one. For the benefit of any others that reference this post, uninstall the entire motor to change the belt, rather than trying to get the T25 screws out and removing the water pump. The motor comes off easily and goes back on just as easily. Just watch the wiring harness on top.
Again, thanks. Appreciate your help.

Thank you for your advise for future users. We're glad you were able to fix it. Have a nice holiday.
