I have a GE microwave.Problem is unit shuts off and reset soon as magnetron powers up.I have replaced control board.Funny thing is when control panel is in open position it works great. When I put it back it doesn't work.I checked wiring for loose connections.None found.Almost seems like too much load.Any ideas???

Several things to check first,

Check all the filters(bottom of unit)and the exhaust filter behind top grille panel(if supplied)

Check and run the vent motor(it is also the cooling fan on this unit),make sure it runs on all speeds and circulates the exhaust air .

If all those checks are good, I would suspect a weak hi limit thermostat on the side of the magnetron.

Be very cautious if you decide to replace the thermostat. You will be in close proximity of high voltage components and wiring and could get hurt(even if the machine has no power supplied to it).

All the fans work.Question I have is why would it work perfect with control panel opened up or laying flat.Put the unit back together and problem happens.I don't think it runs long enough for high limit on mag tube.As soon as mag powers up display dims and goes blank.A second later comes back on and have to set clock and date again. In 22 yrs of being a tech never seen this.

The only other time I have seen this problem, many years ago, It required a wire harness, I never was able to determine the cause, but that was the repair, Come to think of it... it was a GE microwave.

Ok thanks.I thought Mag was drawing too much and clipping out control board.
