Amateur home repairman here, hunting for the defrost timer on my Amana BR18VL, freezer on bottom frig. I think it's kaput, want to troubleshoot but can't locate. The freezer (evaporator) coil doesn't thaw as it should. Any info appreciated. Thanks. pk

since you cant troubleshoot the defrost control located on the main control board, you should test continuity through the defrost heater and the defrost terminator switch, the latter of which needs to be tested in a freezing cold state. If both show continuity, replace the main control board.

Thanks, FridgeDoctor, for your reply and for identifying two components to check. 1) I assume the defrost heaters are the 2 black elements at the exterior and within the evaporator coil, correct? 2) Where will I find the defrost terminator switch?? Is that the thermostat attached to the evapotator coil? 3) Also, where is the main control board on my Amana BR18VL? And 4) If the main control board is kaput, where on the frig is it and where do I source that part? Thank you. pk

terminator switch is clipped at the top of the evaporator coil in the freezer, and there is only one heating element. the main control board is located in the refrigerator, within the main control panel. You should be able to get any of the 3 bad parts at the top of the page.

Thanks again for your reply, FridgeDoctor. Both the terminator switch and the heating element tested OK for continuity. Guess I'll go after the main control panel. Thanks again. pk

Well blow me down, this Amana BR18VL frig DOES have a defrost timer!! It was obscured by a tin plate. I'm troubleshooting it, operating it manually and getting the defrost circuit to work. I'm gonna watch that timer to be sure it actually advances in real time.
