Can somebody help with this please -
This is a Sharp, R-209BK model. Microwave display panel has blinking 88.88, but none of the keys on pad works. Microwave is fairly brand new (Keypad plastic cover is still on). Few weeks ago I had the same problem but it worked after few days of rest.
Any ideas what could be wrong. I do not mind repairing if it costs anything below $30 to $40, instead of buying a new one.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks

I think I may have found the problem with keypad/display panel connectors. I have cleaned and removed the dust coating on the copper connectors that connects to ckt board. Microwave works perfect now, but the STOP/CLEAR button is not working. I can live with that.

Thnx

Who-hoo! Glad I stumbled across this web site. Certain numbers on the keypad of my 10 y.o. Sharp have been failing for some time and finally tonight the start key just quit working. I was going to toss it anyway, so I took it apart and cleaned the zebra strip like you suggested. Works like new now! Thanks William, you just saved me the cost of a new microwave!

Hey William (or anyone else) I've had to clean this connector a few times in the past year and now just a few numbers are working on the keypad no matter how good I clean it. Rotated it 180 degrees and different numbers work, so I'm pretty sure it's the zebra strip. Anyone know how/if/where I can obtain a new zebra strip for this Sharp R-209bk? I tried to find a part # online, but people are wanting $20 for a service manual.

Thanks for the part # and suggestions William. :) I think the problem is that this silicon (?) zebra connector has shrunk a little with age/heat and it's just not making good contact. I just now made a little shim out of a strip of business card stock and stuck it in behind the clear plastic wire harness thingy so the connection is tighter, and now everything is good to go... at least for the time being.
