I replaced the capacitor / diode and now the unit runs and heats but when you first turn it on, it makes a short, quite loud buzzing sound from the magnetron / capacitor area and the light in the chamber flicker. It sounds like it's going to explode, just for a second, and then all is fine.
Any suggestions?

Try reversing the wires on the capacitor. It will make a growling sound when wired backwards.
