I need to buy a washer and dryer. My understanding is the washer is more important, so the washer directs the decision. I would like to spend in the neighborhood of $1,500 for the set. I have looked at the Maytag Bravos, Whirlpool Cabrio, and Samsung front loader. I'm open to any model, though. I don't care if it's front or top load. I don't want a piece of junk. I plan to buy an extended warranty, so I want good customer service. I want something that will do a good job and not break.

I kneel to the gurus and ask for your wise advice on the best washer model in my price range.

Unless you just enjoy spending money, you can get a nice washer dryer set for a lot less than what you are planning..

Any of the four major U. S. brands, Whirlpool (Kenmore made by Whirlpool), Frigidaire, GE or Maytag basic top loaders. Get one with a timer, water temp switch and load level switch and you will have everything you really need. The matching basic dryer will do fine. Plan to spend $650 to $750 plus tax and delivery.

Take the money you save and enjoy yourself.

A front loader will be more expensive, only do a marginally better job, be more likely to need repair and the repairs will be very expensive.
