Have a one piece whirlpool Gold Over/microwave. Three months ago the microwave started making a loud humming noise when turned on and does not heat at all. Worked one minute, and the next did not. Will not heat anything. Oven below works and all electronics work. Only loud humming and no heat. Was told by someone it would cost around 1000.00 to fix. I am so upset. What could possibly be wrong with the microwave. It did not get a lot of use to "wear out" either. Please help. Thanks

If it constantly hums and does so every time you try to use it, I would lean toward a bad power transformer. Part number: AP2929274

Thanks...The humming is more like a very loud buzz. Do you think this could be repaired by someone who knows a little bit about doing this, or should I be safe and call a repairman. They want to replace more than the transformer. They also want to replace the Cap and Diode, Magnetron and the transformer.

That's "Replacement Therapy". It's an indication that the individual doesn't know how to troubleshoot. We can help you in this process, if you have and know how to use a meter.

Great...Will wait for my husband to get home. He knows how to use the meter.
