The turntable is not turning. When I remove the glass tray and put a cup of water in the microwave to heat up, the coupler acts like it wants to turn a very little--but it won't make a complete turn--barely an 1/8 of a turn. When I place the glass tray on it , nothing happens. I am assuming that I either have a cracked coupler or a bad motor/or both.
What can I do to check the coupler--can I just pull it straight up to check for cracks? If it is not cracked should I go ahead and replace the motor?

I removed the coupler and it does not appear to be cracked.
When I removed the glass plate the coupler would turn (on one try) and not turn at all when I tried it again. When I put the glass plate back on the coupler, the plate would not turn at all. After removing the coupler I could see the motor shaft when the microwave was on and the shaft appeared to move, very slowly.
Since the motor shaft does not appear to be able to turn when a "load" is placed on tray I am assuming the motor needs to be replaced. Is that a good assumption??

Yes. It would be a good idea to replace them both.
