I have an oven that when you turn it on you can see the glow at the botton of the oven but it sits there for several minutes without firing, on a very rare occasion you can get it to fire up. I have seen a few posts that safety valve may be bad or the ignitor as well. Is there a way to get a definite determintion of the problem and how hard is it to replace these parts on the oven? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Most likely the problem is a bad igniter.

You can learn how oven igniter works from one of my previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros...1897-oven-wont-lite.html

- The part number for the oven igniter is AP2150412

Here are the break down diagrams for the Tappan range Model 30-2251-00-07

Yup, bad ignitor.

I know it seems counter-intuitive. But, trust me, it is NOT the bake valve, it is the ignitor. It is common for people to change the valve assuming that the ignitor must be good because it is glowing. But, if the ignitor does not pull enough amps, the valve will not open.

Most ignitors go bad between 4 and 6 years old.
