washer had a lid switch malfunction (after my troubleshooting) earlier this morning. looked up the part & are ordering it ASAP. before i had a chance to bypass the switch (by splicing the 2 gray wires), my roommate went to use the washer without my knowledge.

the two gray wires were (i believe) touching the top cabinet housing & during the end of the fill cycle (right before it went to agitate), there was a spark & the it would not advance on the timer, even after i spliced the wire & tried to restart the fill cycle.

washer still gets power & all of the other cycles work: spin & drain. i also activated the timer during the rinse cycle to see if it would fill with water, but it only spins & it doesn't seem to advance at the end of it.

The lid switch does not affect the fill cycle. That's controlled by the timer, the water level (pressure) switch, and the water inlet valve. If it isn't filling, first check to make sure the water source is supplying water. Then check to see if there is any obstruction or restriction to and from the valve. A common problem is sediment build-up in the inlet to the valve, especially the hot side. If everything is clear, try the fill in all the wash cycles. If you get water in one or more, but not in all cycles, replace the timer. The pressure switch rarely fails, but the air hose between the switch and the tub can become clogged or restricted. Take the end of the hose off the switch and blow into it to see if it is clear.

the water source is supplying water. there is no obstruction or restriction either. washer was working fine until "spark" occurred. tried the fill in all cycles on the washer, no dice. doesn't even agitate, but all other functions in other cycles are operable as stated before.

the pressure switch could possibly be bad. the air hose between it & the tub were clear of any obstruction. blew into hose just to be sure.

i guess i'll order a new timer, but if that's not the case, it may be the pressure switch. i'm leaning towards a bad timer because it was in the process of changing from fill to agitate when "spark" occurred (& those are the only 2 parts of all cycles that don't work whatsoever).

One last check: Does it fill when you select "Rinse"? I also lean toward the timer as the culprit.

It's probably the timer, then.
