The dryer seems to work fine on the timed status except it does not stop running. The clothes are dry and goes thru the cooldown period but continues to run until stopped by opening the door.can it be anything otherthan the timer ?

It is possibly your putsh to start switch, particularly if it comes back on after you close the door. Unfortunately it is rather than expensive part but you will have to try it to test out. Part number: AP2997390

sidfink 43 thanks for your input but the dryer does not continue running after I open the door and close it again . at that point the clothes are dry and cooled off.

If it is only doing this on the timed cycle and it does shut off when you open the door even in the middle of the cycle and not start up when you close the door then the timer becomes the likely suspect.
