Top Mount freezer-bottom fridge:
Problem: Food/water all freezing in bottom section (fridge). All controls set to lowest possible-Freezer OK.
Not sure if problem is thermostat or ? How to troubleshoot problem for root cause determination myself?

Try to set the freezer temperature control to "4" and the refrigerator temperature control to "1". Wait about 24 hours to see the result and post it.

Gene,
I set controls as requested (fridge1/Freezer4):
Not freezing as fast - set a small amount of water in cup and it did not freeze after ~ 35 hrs, (before it would be frozen over) however some food left in a container has very light freezing around the edges and existing items that were frozen previously in the fridge have remained frozen (no visable signs of defrosting).
First I am curious as to why changing freezer control as you specified would effect the fridge area?
Second, any further recomendations? It may just take time for everything to thaw out but not sure if complete problem is solved or not?

The refrigerator part cools down with the cold air coming from the freezer through the damper. When you adjusted the Freezer temperature control you actually open or close the damper allow more or less cold air into the refrigerator. In other word "1" or "cold" setting means the damper is completelly open and "4" or "colder" means it's completely closed and all cold air stays in the freezer. When you adjusted the Refrigerator control you actually adjusted the thermostat (aka a cold control) which reads the temperature in the refrigerator. Thank you very much for the help and explanation. It seems that replacing the thermostat just requires unscrewing and removing the control box to get to the thermostat, any other advice?
